ENGLISH SUMMARY: To stop the prostitution of African girls, adopt one of them. In italy thousands of Nigerian girls live in clandestinity and as prostitutes: They are exploited through a racket that brought them to Europe with false promises and later reduced them to a state of complete slavery. This associationan an ONG here in Italy has initiated a help project called "LA RAGAZZA DI BENIN CITY" = THE BENIN CITY GIRL http://www.inafrica.it/benincity.html. They are creating awareness of the problems of this phenomenon and calling for peoples participation and solidarity. SUMMARY BY, Chukwubike Okey Charles

L'incoscienza di clienti che - di fatto - contribuiscono a sfruttarle; il perbenismo di quanti ritengono che il problema può esser risolto solo rispedendole in Africa; il moralismo di quanti non sopportano neppure l'idea di dover parlare di prostituzione; l'indifferenza di quanti vivono solo del loro egoismo e non sanno auspicare altro che soluzioni punitive e detentive; il razzismo sempre e comunque presente; l'imperfetto impegno civile di chi ha espresso solidarietà per Safiya e per Amina, che hanno rischiato di essere lapidate in Nigeria, ma non sa far nulla per le tante Safiya ed Amina che vivono in Italia …. queste sono le pietre con le quali, ogni giorno, le africane sono lapidate in Italia.Il Progetto "La ragazza di Benin City" affronta la problematica delle ragazze africane che giungono in Italia, ridotte in condizione di schiavitù e vuol farsi strumento non confessionale di azione concreta, operando su quattro fronti: 1 – con le "organizzazioni del volontariato", incentivando a loro favore il flusso dei sostegni finanziari grazie ai quali possono portare avanti percorsi di recupero di queste ragazze;

Quello che non capisco è che si vogliono punire sempre le ragazze che si prostituiscono,, le si vogliono multare, le si rispedisce al loro paese ma, i protettori, le madames rimangono e non vengono toccati, perchè?
HI Simona I reply you in English because I have read you someother place in English:
it is not only the girls that are being punished. From yesterday the municipality of Rome and many other municipalities emanated laws punishing and giving fines to the customers/clients of thseo prostituting in the streets.
It wasn't easy yeaterday (250 people given fines in two hours). great protests from the girls and their clients.
On the issue of the 'madams' ie Nigerian pimps, you know many have been arrested since the last two years butthey have addopted other modus operandi i.e havein an operational base in NIgeria as described in this link http://chukbyke.blogspot.com/2008/08/child-prostitutionarrests-in-italy.html
Yoo may wish to see this link for earlier posts on this http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=d87v66w_6fgzv6hft&invite=dd99zcg
@Simona:This may still show you how difficult or easy it is to deal with this phenomenon-

Random talks on Nigeria and Prostitution
'Quick and durable positive changes can only come from interventions in the communities of departure and communities of arrival.' I.e. Nigeria (and particularly Benin City , the state of origin of 90% of the girls), secondly the Nigerian community in Italy . This was the theme of one of the papers I presented to the Italian ministries of welfare ,women affairs and Equal opportunities on this phenomenon years ago.
Social psychology tells us that people (esp. Africans) behave more the way the community wants them to and not the way they would want to.
Ø How would you want to eradicate such a phenomenon when most of them in recent times willingly paid or got their parents lease their homes to money lenders as to raise money for the trip?
Ø How do you want to stop what the chief priests and other "men of God" of the village openly came to pray and pour libations to the gods for a good ending and merriments made on the departure day. Contradictions upon contradictions; these very priests are those whom the specimen of the girl's blood, her pubic hair, and menstrual blood were deposited on there dreadful shrines for some intimidatory rites.
Ø What do you tell the "italo mothers" -an organization of women whose daughters 'work' in Italy . A camorra (mafia) type association that was the order of the day in Benin in the late '90s. Being a member was also a symbol of one that has arrived at the apex of the type of society they were seeing.
Ø Try to preach some 'anti ashawo gospel' to the parents who cannot send their child to any school: a girl (since she was 14) that has been under constant sexual molestations by men 30 years older (Nigerian men not oyibo-menoooo) while hawking things in the car parks or serving as housemaids somewhere in "a big man's" home.
I will stop here to give you a little vision into the sort job we have to do in the fabrics and tissues of 'community of departure'.
In the community of arrival .
Ø Tell the madam that someone should not suffer what she suffered, even more.
Ø Tell her also how to recover her €45000.00(forty- five thousands euro) she 'bought' the girl. There are cases of those who brought in their mothers or mothers who brought in their daughters and 'sold' them cash down to people in other towns so that they would be tough on them in order to earn money fast. Where and how do you start correcting these animal behaviours? Don't they sound like things of other worlds?
Ø Where will the madam get the money to maintain her 'puree boys'? i.e. many lazy boys they maintain lavishly to give them household , other home services and help in controlling 'her girls'. What type of job will these boys be good in, after 'puree boying' for years?
Ø Come to think of the economy of the community. what will the shop owners do? They were selling things 500% higher than Asian shops until people started having the courage to abandon them and their wares: Sometimes things were sold to our sisters at specially retouched (hiked) prizes. The numerous Nigerian hair saloons what do you convert them to?
Ø Our money and cargo transfer people; what will you tell them?
Ø Our estate managers, Home re-renters ; Making money more than landlords…….
Ø Fake and real documents producers … I salute ooo.
Ø Our numerous 'comunque' Nigerian lawyers who feed on our sisters ignorance and most often put them in more serious problems because of lack of experience . How many really ever read a book in law?
Ø What jobs will the babalowos and native doctors that were imported to Italy by these Madams be fit for? How do you tell them what is happening? Many Italian turtles , white pigeons and black cats will start living longer
Ø We now have more churches than village associations here in Italy . Every ex-madam is a deaconess or prophetess in one church or the other and most Puree boys have turned to self made Pastors "Men of God" preaching only the passage on Mary Magdalene every Sunday. If he goes too far from that his church closes. I MUST POINT OUT HERE THAT THERE ARE REALLY A FEW DEDICATED PASTORS IN THE COMMUNITY ALSO. Where will this religious work force be absorbed when the biz will be destroyed?
Ø Some of the medical doctors (real and quack) in the community or close to the community will realize that they did not study only how to do only one sort of surgery or operation………… when the curtain falls down.
The litany can go on and on until we all in the community identify ourselves. They are just put here for a mind- set (especially for those far away from the phenomenon) on some areas of our discussion............... follow this link for furthet readings http://chukbyke.blogspot.com/2008/08/still-under-carpet.html
From my interpretation of your report on the Nigerian community in Italy; i suppose most of them are participants voluntarily or involuntarily of this crimes.
What are the contributions of our embassy and numerous Priests and religious congregations doing to eradicate this phenomenon.

Crime makes much more noise than good actions. The majority isn't involved as you think, but if you don't committ any crime nobody will know of your existance.
